POWELL Real Estate began in 2002 as an idea that, with heartfelt determination and a lot of hard work has impacted many people we care about in real tangible ways. Toby POWELL, himself a homebuilder and real estate broker of more than five decades, was Rodney’s father and his mentor through the early years. Having long-established relationships with other homebuilders and land developers, Rodney identified an opportunity to help property owners with residential lots, for which resales can be challenging.

Soon, the news media began regularly reporting Rodney in the Top Ten Real Estate Individual ranked by number of closed transactions. In 2015 he was the Houston Business Journal #2 Top Real Estate Individual, ranked by number of closed transactions among nearly 35,000 members of the Houston Association of Realtors [HAR] – up from #3 in 2005, 2013, and 2016..

Rodney has a background in information technology consulting, developing custom financial and engineering applications — including acquisition and new development models for commercial real estate clients. In response to to the shifting real estate market, Rodney developed software for estimating single-family residential property values. He made use of this technology and his industry expertise by providing ad valorem tax analysis and representing clientele of $-million residential properties in appraisal review board hearings.

He does not continue doing property tax consulting these days. Instead, Rodney serves as a state arbitrator to objectively settle cases between Texas property owners and county appraisal districts.
